Cybil Cann

Hi, I’m Cybil and I’m the IT & Business Operations Intern. I was born in Norwich but study Business Studies at Sheffield Hallam. I’m working within the IT Project Management team, meaning we help facilitate IT projects and make sure they run smoothly. I feel the placement is going well and that I am learning a lot about the business, whilst also developing myself personally and professionally.

What attracted you to TIP Group?

I had heard it was a really good company to work for, with good culture and values, with this recently being proven by us being named one of the UK’s Best Workplaces™ for Wellbeing (2023) by Great Place to Work®. I also wanted to get experience in a larger company, to know how different departments work to bring the best results for the end customer.

Describe your experience at TIP in three words:

Challenging, rewarding and exciting.

What projects have you been working on whilst on your placement?

A stand out project I worked on was changing the domain name of the company from TIP Trailer Services to TIP Group. I started working on this in the first month I joined the company. When this project was mentioned to me, I thought ‘it surely couldn’t be too hard’, but when I realised the domain needed to be changed on all our systems (over 100 of them) I realised we had a bigger task at hand!

What have you learnt / developed since the start of your internship?

Since starting at TIP, I’ve developed my confidence by holding meetings, presenting to the CIO and emailing people from across the company. Before joining, I lacked confidence in my writing in particular, with not knowing how to format or how to sign off an email. Within the first few days, I also started to develop a network, who have helped and guided me through my placement. By creating this network, it made learning so much more comfortable, enjoyable and collaborative.

What is one thing that makes your day instantly better?

A jar of pickles

What would your warning label say?

‘May contain pickles’

What is your favorite snack?

Pickles
