Kareem Ahmed

My name is Kareem, and I am from Egypt. Currently, I am doing my placement year with TIP Group based in Manchester. My experience with the team has been great so far; everyone is very friendly and always willing to help each other out. As for my placement, it is going splendidly. I am learning a lot of new skills and knowledge every day, which is very fulfilling. Being part of such a dynamic and supportive team has made my experience even more enriching. I am looking forward to the rest of my time here and continuing to grow both personally and professionally.

What attracted you to TIP Group?

As I always had passion for technology and innovation, as well as an interest in learning new skills and gaining valuable experience, when I saw the intern opportunity to work at TIP, I was very excited, especially as it’s one of leading companies in the industry!

When I researched the company, I found a huge amount of positive feedback from current and previous employees about the work environment and how supportive and collaborative the team is. Additionally, in my interview, I was told that I will work on projects that will have a real impact on the business, contributing to the development of cutting-edge solutions;  that was one of the things I wanted the company that I am going to work for to offer, so this is why, I chose to do my placement year at TIP.

Describe your experience at TIP in three words:

Challenging, supportive and motivating.

What projects have you been working on whilst on your placement?

As an applications intern, I had the opportunity to work on several exciting projects. One of my main responsibilities was to test various applications to ensure they met the required standards. This involved conducting extensive testing and troubleshooting to identify any issues or bugs that needed to be addressed.

Another project that I worked on was solutioning, which involved helping the company transition its database to SQL. This required a deep understanding of database management and SQL, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with the IT team to ensure a smooth transition.

Finally, I was also involved in creating a portal to help the collections and operations teams. This portal was designed to streamline processes and improve communication between teams, ultimately, leading to more efficient and effective operations. Overall, these projects provided me a wealth of experience and knowledge in the field of applications development, and helped me develop skills in testing, database management, and portal creation.

What have you learnt / developed since the start of your internship?

As IT Applications intern at TIP Group, I have developed a range of technical, project management, problem-solving, teamwork and professional development skills. I have had hands-on experience with various programming languages and software development tools, as well as with database management and other technicalities related to applications development.

I have been involved in multiple projects concurrently, which helped me to develop project management skills such as task prioritisation, time management and effective communication. I was also responsible for troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, which helped me develop my problem-solving and critical thinking. By closely working with members of the IT team and other departments in the company, I also developed my teamwork and collaboration skills.

TIP Group also provided opportunities for me to attend training sessions, workshops and other professional development courses that helped me improve my skills and knowledge in various areas of applications development. Overall, my internship with TIP Group has provided me with a wealth of experience and knowledge in the field of IT, helping me develop valuable skills that I can use throughout my career.

Georgia, as I loved the nature and people were so friendly.

About the Role

Role overview:

Help the project team with the testing, management, and deployment of the Matrix programme. Demonstrate your experience and knowledge of programming fundamentals, as well as your communication skills, in order to collaborate with multiple teams and better serve our end users.

 

Some of the responsibilities:

  • Act as a key contact between the customer base and technical support personnel, liaising with team members across Europe
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and both internal and external contacts
  • Close collaboration with project managers/leaders and development teams regarding release management activities
  • Engage in strategic projects and support the project management team in meeting participation in project-related activities
  • Opportunity to work alongside fellow interns on a short-term project
  • Requirements gathering and supporting the delivery of IT Software solutions
  • IT budget management
  • Process IT Purchase Orders and manage invoices
  • Maintain storage of information for licences and contracts
  • Opportunity to join the volunteering committee to help plan and organise quarterly events

What’s required:

  • Studying a degree in Computer Science or any other related course
  • Currently enrolled in the second year of the course
