Meet the Mechanic - Kevin S

How did you begin working in the trailer industry?

I first started working on buses, then the bus depot ending up shutting down. Next door, there was a trailer workshop and I started working there as an Apprentice in roughly 1998. I’ve been in trailers ever since! I’m currently an MSU (Mobile Service Unit) at TIP, having joined in November 2021.

What does a typical day at work involve for you?

I travel to our customer sites within my region where I liaise with all of the customers and do their servicing, MOTs, repairs and breakdowns. No day is the same. My role is mobile so there’s lots of variety in my day-to-day work.

What do you like about working for TIP?

I like being out and about because I’m an MSU. I like doing something different every day and meeting different people and customers.

What’s your biggest work achievement?

I mainly work on my own, so my everyday achievements for me include working independently to meet my own deadlines. The biggest achievements include getting out of tight spaces on my own, I work in remote places sometimes so it can be difficult, especially when you’re on your own!

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I like to spend time with my kids and family, I’m into rugby and I’m a Leicester fan!

Can you tell us an interesting fact about yourself?

I’ve got two kids, a boy (8) and a girl (3). They keep me busy outside of work, so not much time for any interesting hobbies as such!
