Meet the TIP Used Team - Mark Pevitt

Name: Mark Pevitt

Job Title: Remarketing Manager - Senior

TIP Base Location: Manchester Branch

Start month at TIP: April 1998

How long have you been in the industry and how did you get into it?

I started working in the trailer industry at the age of 18, pre-TIP days at CTR (36 years ago) in the workshops. The opportunity to work in the ‘remarketing’ team came to me in 2003 and the rest is history.

What are the top 3 things you like about working for TIP?

At TIP, its got to be the people. No matter what department, everybody is happy to help. I know it’s often said, but TIP is just like one big family.

I think TIP as a business is great at investing in homegrown talent. Without this investment, I wouldn’t be in the position that I am today. Many of my work colleagues have also progressed into higher positions over the years.

The remarketing team, I worked under Will Laing for 20 years who gave me a fantastic grounding in the industry. Now, it’s myself and Ahmet. His strengths are my weaknesses, and vice versa, so as a team we work well together. We may only be a small team, but have the full support of the business and contribute a healthy margin to the ‘bottom line’. We are not only work colleagues, outside of work we’ve also tackled a few challenges together; half marathons, coast-to-coast races and a few cycling challenges.

What are the most valuable skills you learnt/developed whilst working for TIP Used?

To never judge a book by its cover. Treat people how you would expect to be treated and never cut corners!

What does a typical day for you involve?

Each day can vary massively. A typical day would be to get into the office, start up my laptop and look at what stock we have available across the UK and Ireland. I will respond to any enquiries, including from the various online advertising campaigns we use. I will also speak to customers, new and existing, to see if we can help with their trailer requirements. Then there’s the admin side, which can vary from having to deal with insurance assessors/brokers, to raising invoices, to arranging collections/servicing and repairs to help ensure a smooth sale from start to finish.

What is your biggest work achievement?

My biggest work achievement would definitely be my progression to my current role as UK & Ire Remarketing Manager. I originally started working for CTR in a workshop position at the age of 18 and since then I have expanded my knowledge and skills to work my way ‘up the ladder’ through various departments to my current role.

What part of your job do you find most enjoyable?

That’s simple; meeting and dealing with customers from all walks of life. From sole-traders buying one trailer, to corporate buyers that purchase large volumes. In the used trailer world, every day is different.

Would you say that TIP Used pricing is competitive?

We currently have some very new looking 3-year-old box-van trailers on sale for £10,000 less than new and available tomorrow. How many would you like?

What is a fun/interesting fact about yourself?

My wedding video has been on TV a few times and no, I didn’t send it in, so I was never compensated!
