Meet the Sales Guy - Peter Whelan

Peter Whelan, Sales Manager at our Glasgow branch, details his 36 years in the industry, including his biggest work achievement.

TIP base location:

Glasgow

How long have you been in the industry and how did you get into it?

I have been in the industry for 36 years. I started with TIP in 1985 as an operations assistant, checking trailers in and out. My work was done through manual sheets back then, no fancy devices, although we did have electricity and running water!

What is your biggest work achievement?

I would like to think my biggest work achievement is the relationships I have built with customers since I moved into TIP sales in 1995. Many of these are still customers today, some have even become close friends. I am a bit of a trailer spotter and still get a real sense of achievement every time I secure a trailer order. I get genuinely excited when the new trailers arrive and go into service. I need to get out more!

What do you like about working for TIP Trailer Services?

It does sound like an overused cliché, however, it is genuinely the people. I really believe our entire team strive to deliver excellent customer service and put our clients first in everything we do. Anyone who knows us, especially the sales team, will appreciate that after the hard work is done we do like to enjoy a beer or two. I think they call it team bonding!

What/who inspires you?

My family. Especially my granddaughter Ayla, who is eighteen months old. During the wet, dark, cold Scottish mornings, she gives me the motivation to put the suit on and get to work. This Princess doesn’t come cheap!
