Meet the Commercial Team - Adam Stanton

Name: Adam Stanton

Job Title: Key Accounts Manager

TIP Base Location: Grayrentals Lichfield

Start month at TIP: July 2022

How long have you been in the industry and how did you get into it?

I’ve been in the industry since 2010, aged 18. There was an opportunity to join a vehicle rental company that was recruiting for a van valeter and I had an interest in the industry due to my Dad working in it for many years. I’ve stayed within the industry since then, progressing from cleaning vehicles to obtaining my HGV licence and delivering them. I also managed the rental desk before finding my feet in sales and account management, which I’ve now been doing for 9 years.

What do you like about working at TIP Group?

From my relatively short time here so far, and joining at a time when quite a few new faces arrived from Ryder, I like how open and approachable everyone is in the business, both new and long standing.

What does a typical day for you involve?

Every day is different depending on what needs to be done. Whether it be having meetings with customers on-site or virtually, producing operational data for customers, discussing renewals or additional requirements, speaking to new customers, liaising with manufacturers or other suppliers, the list is extensive but exciting and keeps me busy.

What are the top 3 most valuable skills you’ve learnt whilst working at TIP Group?

1. Time Management – With so many different aspects to the role, making the most use of time is important.

2. Product and system knowledge – We use different systems than I’ve been used to in the past and work with manufacturers and suppliers that I haven’t done before.

3. Communication – I know everyone says it! But we really wouldn’t get very far without this.

What is your biggest work achievement?

In terms of business, it’s impossible to pick one as each opportunity comes with its own challenge and is just as rewarding. For me, it would be taking a leap of faith into a new job role and business and feeling like I’ve settled in pretty quickly. Colleagues being so approachable has made this a lot easier than I was expecting.

What’s your ideal way to spend your weekends?

Weekends is always family time. We love being out and about going to parks, picnics, farms. Much more enjoyable in the summer though!

What’s a mistake you made early on in your career, and what did you learn from it?

Very early into my sales career I made an incorrect assumption about something and since then I’ve never assumed again. My take-away from that was to always confirm or simply ask the question if unsure.

What is a fun/interesting fact about yourself?

I failed my car practical test four times (I was very unlucky on 3 of them!) but passed my HGV practical test first time and scored 100% on the theory test.
