TIP MECHANIC ACADEMY OPENS
TIP has opened the doors at its brand-new mechanic academy this week, commencing trailer technician training to 12 new, and relatively inexperienced, but lucky applicants.

The recruits will benefit from academic training in a purpose-built classroom, and will also have access to practical training, given the facility is effectively attached to TIP’s ‘state-of-the-art’ workshop at Nuneaton. Following the week-long training, ‘students’ will return to their branches at Simonswood, Nuneaton, Lichfield, Carrington, Grays, Hull, Knottingley, Leeds and Southampton for three weeks of ‘on-the-job’ training, before returning once again to the academy for the next weekly session. The pattern will continue until the ‘fast-track’ 9 month learning ends, with trainees becoming ‘Level 3’ TIP certified trailer mechanics upon successful completion.

Typically, it takes a period of three to four years to train as a trailer technician, but the exciting initiative from TIP aims to ‘fast-track’ that considerably, albeit with the newly qualified technicians benefitting from further mentoring at their respective local TIP branches thereafter.
Training covers a wide range of topics including trailer maintenance, diagnostics, repair and safety, and combines instructor-led, e-learning and, as mentioned, hands-on training.

Students receive a full package of salary and benefits whilst training. A first of its kind in the transportation industry, the TMA is seen by TIP as an opportunity to attract much-needed new talent to the industry.
