TIP UK & Ireland Mechanic Team Competition showcases skills and standards
TIP has hosted its annual Mechanic Team Competition for its UK & Ireland branches, bringing together teams of two from across its network to demonstrate technical expertise, teamwork and a shared commitment to attaining high technical standards.
Held over two days at TIP Nuneaton, the competition saw its UK & Ireland branches competing against each other for the chance to represent the region at the Mechanic Team Competition Final, due to take place later this year in Valencia.
This year’s event introduced a new competition format, combining theoretical knowledge with practical, real‑world assessments.
Round 1 of the competition actually took place in December at various TIP locations, where teams completed an online theoretical examination. The top six teams progressed to the live finals, comprising Rounds 2 and 3, at Nuneaton.
These rounds were designed to test technical proficiency, accuracy and adherence to standards across a series of structured assessments.
Teams carried out :-
- a full trailer ‘A’ check inspection, identifying and documenting five pre‑introduced defects on a designated asset
- an electrical installation task to wire a trailer rear light system using a 15‑pin plug configuration
- a brake refurbishment assessment which required a full axle refurbishment, including hub removal, replacement of shoes, springs, drums and bearings, and the installation of new airbags and brake chambers
To complement the practical tasks, teams also completed two online theoretical examinations, each consisting of approximately 40 questions, covering technical theory and industry standards.
And the winners were …
Final scores were calculated using a combination of practical assessment results and theoretical examination data.
Huge congratulations go to Andy & Aaron from TIP Nelson in Lancashire who will now travel to Valencia to represent the UK & Ireland at the TIP Mechanic Team Competition Final later this year. There they will compete against the regional winning teams from the Nordics, Central Europe, Southern Europe and the Benelux.
Congratulations to all participants for their professionalism and commitment—and well done to all those who organised the event.
Good luck in the final team TIP Nelson !
