TIP supports DS Smith fleet renewal with supply of tractor units and trailers

TIP Group is delighted to have supported paper, packaging and recycling logistics specialists DS Smith Logistics by supplying new tractor units and trailers as part of a major fleet renewal programme.

61 Volvo FM 460 Globetrotter 6x2 tractor units and 26 Lawrence David pillarless curtainsider trailers have been provided to DS Smith on a long-term leasing arrangement, with the tractor units replacing the entirety of their existing fleet of ageing units.

TIP worked with management and the fleet team at DS Smith over a period of several months in order to determine the optimal specifications to best suit the needs of the DS Smith operation. That operation will see paper reels transported from their paper mill across the UK to their customers, with return journeys transporting bailed fibre back to the mill for recycling into paper reels.

Key specification considerations for the tractor units were tare weight, safety, driver comfort and reliability, in addition to environmental performance. With regards to safety, meeting the Direct Vision Standard (DVS) rating for working in Central London was vital.

The curtainsider trailers were fitted with the Bescart Strapsafe roof-mounted strap system for additional load security, DS Smith livery and are supplied complete with full maintenance package.
