TIP hits 23,000 BrakePlus installations, driving compliance and safety across UK roads
Six months after the DVSA updated its Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness, TIP has fitted 23,000 trailers with BrakePlus, its Electronic Braking Performance Monitoring System (EBPMS), helping operators meet the revised braking system assessment guidelines introduced in April, all while increasing operational efficiencies, reducing costs and improving safety.
Under the guidelines, braking systems must be assessed at every service inspection, either via a roller brake test or an EBPMS. BrakePlus offers continuous on-road monitoring, alerting users to performance issues and removes the need for regular workshop visits for a roller brake test.
TIP stresses that EBPMS complements rather than replaces roller brake tests. While BrakePlus tracks trends, roller brake tests identify axle-specific faults and test park brake performance. TIP workshops still perform roller brake tests when BrakePlus flags issues, an approach that ensures thorough analysis before and after remedial work, and for annual MOTs, where a laden roller brake test provides an extra level of compliance.
Adoption continues to grow, with 2,000–3,000 more installations expected in the next six months. BrakePlus is proving its value across the industry, delivering compliance, efficiency and safer roads.
