e-reefer ‘try before you hire’ scheme proving a success

TIP is delighted with the progress of its ‘try before you hire’ scheme for e-reefers that’s available to UK & Ireland temperature-controlled transport operators and reports a healthy pipeline of take-up and ongoing interest.

Under the scheme, TIP customers & potential customers can operate one or more of the latest zero-emission e-reefer technologies on a trial basis for a period, in order to better understand the benefits that they can bring to their business. At the same time, the scheme is supporting refrigerated fleets’ transition towards lower emissions.

TIP currently offers 3 ‘e-reefer’ solutions for trial and subsequent hire :-

Axle energy recuperation : a system that ‘recovers’ energy during braking or driving downhill to power its battery

Battery and solar-powered system : a system that charges its battery with solar power, supplemented by power from the mains

Retrofit battery and solar-powered system : a system that is integrated into trailers already in a fleet (negating the need to purchase new transport assets), utilising battery technology and solar power

Learnings so far suggest a minimum trial of four weeks is needed and that the most suited technology for one operator is not necessarily the same for another.

TIP is using its international scale to add insights from customer trials overseas to the mix, ensuring it is best placed to advise on the differing technology solutions available.

Trials include the sharing of a comprehensive reporting pack on performance.
