17 brand new SDC curtainsider trailers and 50 brand new DAF XF 6x2 tractor units have been supplied on a long term leasing arrangement to help the business keep pace with demand for its services.

The trailers are pillarless, tri-axle ENXL curtainsiders, complete with Longs of Leeds livery, and have been specified to meet the requirements of their operation. Two of the them are double decks, with fixed ¾ length second deck.

Each is fitted with BrakePlus, following a 3 month trial of the Electronic Braking Performance Monitoring System. The EBPMS will enable their fleet team to monitor brake performance, whilst eliminating the need for more than one physical roller brake test throughout the year, to provide Longs with significant cost savings. It is to be retro-fitted to a further 86 in-fleet trailers.

The new trailers will be managed by TIP’s Knottingley branch, with regular servicing undertaken either at the branch or at the Longs of Leeds sites, via TIP’s mobile service units.

The 50 new generation DAF XF tractor units being supplied are equipped with several features, as specified by Longs, with safety of both road users and the public in mind, and will particularly support their use in London. From a driver welfare point-of-view, the units are fitted with fridge-freezer, microwave and comfy sleeping facility.

Classroom training for the Longs’ drivers will be provided to ensure the business gets the best out of the new features.
