TIP’s annual charity bike ride aims to reach the £500,000 charity milestone

PRESS RELEASE: 22nd May 2023

TIP’s charity fundraising cycling team, ‘The Fat Bottomed Boys & Girls’ is taking to the roads once again on 7th June, aiming to raise more than £70,000 for Staffordshire-based hospice, Dougie Mac.

Over three days, the team of around 50 cyclists, comprised of TIP’s staff, customers and industry partners, will attempt the ‘Game of Thrones Challenge,’ cycling more than 300 kilometres, from Split to Dubrovnik, along Croatia’s ‘Dalmatian Coast’.

Embarking on its ninth escapade, the annual ‘FBB&G’ team has raised over £430,000 for charitable causes since it was founded and it is hoped that this year will see it raise the £70,000 needed to surpass the milestone of half a million pounds raised for charity.

The Douglas Macmillan Hospice is the only hospice in Staffordshire supporting children, young adults and adults, giving care to patients living with a life-limiting illness and supporting families and carers across two sites.

While raising money for the hospice, the ‘FBB&G’ will cycle a route that will see them cover more than 100 kilometres per day and tackling more than 10,000 feet of hill climbs, whilst dealing with the heat of a Croatian summer.

Mike Furnival, managing director of TIP commented, “Our annual fundraising cycle challenge will see 50 cyclists of all ages, sizes, experience and abilities tackle a tough route in aid of a brilliant cause. Over the team’s previous eight efforts, we have been tremendously supported in our fundraising by the commercial vehicle and freight industries, and we hope that this year will be no different. To surpass £500,000 having been raised overall would be a huge achievement and we appreciate any support to help us do that.”
